Visualization simulations were needed for public and agency outreach and for inclusion in environmental documents. The Engineer elected to use a series of photosimulations.
POITRA artists plotted the proposed interchange onto an Engineer provided aerial photograph from preliminary design plans. The aerial simulation would aid in communicating the overall design. Using traditional digital painting techniques POITRA added the interchange overpass structure, retaining walls, ramps, and frontage road. Proposed Willow Road was added with laneage, fill and vehicles and Nipoma Creek bridge. Proposed drainage basins were also represented.
The frontage road would act as an interim connector before initiation of the interchange project. The frontage road would be constructed with the southern portion of Willow Road. A version of the simulation was created to show this interim condition.
The previous bridge and roadway design experience of the POITRA Visual principals always plays a significant role in accurately interpreting and representing the Engineer's design particullarly on interchanges.
The final aerial simulation images were used as meeting materials for CalTrans public involvement process and in the final documents.
