POITRA artists plotted the proposed US101 Interchange onto an Engineer provided photograph from preliminary design plans. Visible elements of the proposed interchange were add including ramp laneage, fill slopes, traffic barriers and automobiles. Existing trees were removed as needed to accomodate the new fill and interchange ramps. This work was finished using traditional digital painting techniques.
POITRA modelers created the interchange overpass structure, retaining walls and ramps using 3D modeling methods.
Design revisions called for wider ramp lanes and shoulders and a new ramp retaining wall. The revised design was used to modify the existing simulation.
The previous bridge and roadway design experience of the POITRA Visual principals always plays a significant role in accurately interpreting and representing the Engineer's design.
The final simulations were used as meeting materials for CalTrans public involvement process and in the final documents.
