De La Cruz Blvd over US101 Overpass Photosimulations CalTrans, San Jose, California POITRA Visual provided design visualization services to illustrate the proposed De La Cruz Boulevard and US101 Interchange redesign for the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans). The proposed design removed the third leaf in the existing three leaf clover configuration of the interchange and added travel lanes to US101. These improvements dictated a longer overpass structure. POITRA created two simulations for the project. A driver eye ground view to detail the features of the new structure and a plan view aerial to explain the overall reconfigured interchange. Photo-simulation was the medium chosen as the easiest to understand and most realistic means to present the new design to the public.

POITRA created an accurate 3D computer model of the proposed longer three span bridge with its abutments, and wing walls. The model was then aligned to the perspective of the base photograph. The models were then appropriately lighted, rendered and composited with the base photograph to create a photo-realistic visual simulation of the new structure. POITRA relied upon the past bridge and highway design experience of its principals to interpret the Engineer's plans and to ensure the accuracy of the finished simulation. The final images were used in internal California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) design sessions and for public meeting displays. « BACK
