The proposed North Metro commuter mainline bisects Denver's Wastewater Treatment Facility. Denver was in the process of expanding and updating the facility with a new secondary aeration plant, which Denver requested be included in the simulation. The North Metro line crosses the facilities parking lots and essential truck operation routes. Additionally the line crosses and re-crosses the O'Brian Canal within the boundaries of the facility. For these reasons the line is carried on a pre-cast concrete viaduct.
Poitra Visual's illustrations of bridges, catenary systems, additional railroad track and sound walls reassured the public that this new transit service could be an attractive addition to their communities.”

POITRA created photo-simulations to help assess the visual impact to the treatment facility and promote a clearer understanding of the lack of operational impacts. To best illustrate these points POITRA photographed from the roof of the facility's offices.
The proposed aeration plant was modeled and used to replace the existing structures in the photograph according to the architect's plans. POITRA then constructed accurate detailed 3D computer model of the proposed viaduct structure and the surrounding landmarks such as the canal. The models were then camera matched, lighted, rendered and composited with the photograph to create a photo-realistic simulation.
The project schedule necessitated a winter scene and POITRA artists replicated the muted lighting and added snow to the structure's curbs to maintain the simulation's high level of believability.
The simulations were finished using traditional image editing methods. POITRA relied upon its principal's previous career experience in bridge design to complete the project efficiently from very conceptual plans.
The simulations were used in negotiations between Denver Wastewater and Regional Transportaion District.
